WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WOLF) — A local manufacturing plant continues to work hard helping make disinfectant for the nation.
Lonza's facility in Williamsport makes a key ingredient in disinfectant.
Since the pandemic started, they've gradually increased production 400%, coming to about 1 million pounds of product per month.
They even worked on hand sanitizer to send to first responders and New York City early in the pandemic.
"We've got a lot of people now who are living in a pandemic. I think that the need for disinfectants is going to stay elevated," said Robert Berger, the Lonza Williamsport plant manager. "We're trying to make the disinfectant product as best we can and as fast as we can and get it to the people who need it."
Through this time, they've also put procedures in place to keep staff safe.
Lonza says there hasn't been a single case of coronavirus in their about 150 employees at the Williamsport locations.
