West Hazleton Fire Dept. collects donations for Harvey aid

WEST HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) -- West Hazleton Fire Department is gathering donations for Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey.

They've partnered with another fire department in Louisiana they organized a collection with last year during their historic flooding.

They say they most need water - since many communities are still without running water.

They're also asking for other necessities like nonperishable food, cleaning items, diapers and feminine products.

West Hazleton says even though they're over a thousand miles away, they're still brothers and feel called to do something.

"The fire department, it's what we're here for. We're not only here if your house is on fire, we're also here to do something like we're doing here. And we all know that if the Hazleton area was in need, that we would hope Texas would step up to the plate and help us," said West Hazleton Fire Department Captain Tony Colombo.

They will be collecting donations through the end of the month, they will then load up a truck and deliver them to the Lone Star State.

There are several Hazleton-area drop off locations, listed here:

- West Hazleton Fire Department

- Hazleton Fire Department

- Harwood Fire Department

- Mcadoo Fire Department

- Hazle Township Fire Department

- Freeland Fire Department
