FOX56's Tennyson Coleman is at the scene in Wilkes-Barre where heavy rain and strong winds swept across the area causing severe damage Wednesday night.

Mundy Street between Bear Creek Boulevard and Highland Park Boulevard will be closed throughout Thursday.

Township police wrote on their Facebook page that there were reports of "multiple collapsed buildings."

Wilkes-Barre Township Police are giving out citations to drivers who are pulling over on I-81 south without a legitimate emergency Thursday.

Officials say drivers are pulling over to see storm damage in Wilkes-Barre Township and is causing traffic congestion.

UGI officials comment about the reported smell of gasoline in the area of the storm:

There are around 500 people without power still, according to the PPL Utilities outage map.

The PPL map say some outages are estimated to be fixed around 10:30 a.m.

Locals took to social media about the damage in our area Wednesday night.

The remnants of a powerful storm that took just minutes to cause minor injuries to six people and extensive damage to this typically busy shopping hub, home to stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods and Panera Bread.
