WILKES-BARRE, LUZURNE CO. (WOLF) — Today the United Way of Wyoming Valley held a thrive drive, to collect necessities for children as they head back to school.
All donations will benefit the United Way Nurse’s Pantry Program, an in-school resource that helps at-risk children meet their basic hygiene and school supply needs.
“You know, toothbrushes and toothpaste and shampoos and school supplies, some kids don't have those. And when they don't have them, they either miss school because they don't have them. They might get bullied at school because of their appearance or the effect of their hygiene on themselves and how others might relate to him. So, to address all of those issues, to keep kids in school, to improve school attendance, all of these items are going to help you know kids throughout Wyoming Valley,” said Bill Jones, the president and CEO of the United Way Wyoming Valley.
The items will go to children in need in the Wilkes-Barre, Crestwood, Hannover, Nanticoke, Valley West, North West, and Pittston area school districts.
The United Way is still accepting donations, if you’re interested in getting more information visit their website.
