PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) — Part of Route 309 was shut down for three hours on Friday after a truck carrying bales of hay caught fire.
Officials said the truck was pulling a trailer filled with the hay when he noticed the smoke.
The driver pulled over where the Cross Valley and Route 115 splits, and was able to unhook the trailer and get to safety.
"The hay is packed pretty tight, so you really have to pull it apart to get it out. And the wind blowing didn't help. We just needed a lot of water and of course there's no hydrants, so we had to call in some tankers cause we are up on the highway. So, it was a battle," said Plains Township Fire Chief Mark Ritsick.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No one was hurt.
