SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO, (WOLF) — The Electric City Steel Drum Project taking place at the marketplace at Steamtown on Friday.
This is a non-profit project established back in 2019 to bring free music lessons to youth.
The University of Scranton's Steel Drum band teamed up with the project to bring a pop-up concert this year.
Janelle Decker, Assistant Director of Performance Music at the University of Scranton, spoke with FOX56:
I think it's extremely important for any community to have a strong support of the arts, especially the performing arts. You get so many people involved of all different ages and I think it shows a lot of health and prosperity in the community to have a lot of support for the arts. So the more accessible the arts are, like having a steel drum program, a strings program, a band program, it's so important for everyone of all ages in that community.
Performances took place on the main floor stage or the storefront second floor.
