Standoff connected to Taylor bar shooting comes to an end
A standoff in Lackawanna County has ended and now two people are in police custody.
Thursday, Scranton and Taylor Police, as well as the Lackawanna County SWAT Team, were at a standoff with a man inside an apartment building off of Lafayette Street and N Everett Avenue in Scranton. That man is Jabar Whitfield. Police say he is one of two suspects in a non-fatal shooting at Lucky's Bar and Grill in Taylor. The shooting happened early Thursday morning and left one man shot. The victim was able to run away from the scene, according to authorities.
The standoff began around 11 a.m. and ended peacefully before 2:30 p.m. Police say witnesses saw Whitfield park his car in the area and walk to the home.
Negotiators were able to speak to Whitfield on the phone before he surrendered.
"It was good to see he surrendered on his own and that they took him out without any problems," neighbor, Joe McCullon, said, "none of the police got hurt and nobody else was hurt."
Later in the evening, police say they determined Whitfield was not the shooter in the bar incident, but say he was still involved. Police believe another man, 20-year-old Tony Leemar-Sprinkle, was the shooter. Both men have been charged with attempted homicide.
