Selinsgrove vs Shikellamy preview
Selinsgrove is right where many thought they would be in the preseason. Undefeated and a top the District 4A standings. The seals are averaging over 40 points a game and it all starts with quarterback Logan Leiby. The senior is the all-time leading thrower now in the district and he has come a long way when he first started four years ago.
Coach Derek said, "Through the years coach Pop working with him just talking about what are you seeing looking at the reads and him being able to come up there and make checks if need be, read a defense and like I said just doing a nice job of managing the offense."
Logan Leiby added, "I definitely stepped up throwing and stuff. Definitely, just the mind game of going out there and knowing what the defense is going to do and when to throw the ball and where is definitely the biggest thing."
Shikellamy comes into this rivalry game 2 and 1. The Braves who have run a wing-t offense for the last couple of years have switched things up a bit this season to take advantage of their athletes.
Braves coach Todd Tilford said, " between the tackles, it is still wing-t but we feel we had some good receivers and running backs and we wanted to get more of them on the fields so we kind of changed it to fit a personnel and I think we are heading in the right direction."
Quarterback Gabe Tilford added, " it is a little different, still get some running in and stuff. But probably throwing the ball. I haven’t practiced quarterback at all in high school."
A unique twist in the rivalry is the relationship between the two coaches, who are brother in laws.
"Coaching against him not such a big deal but coaching against my nephews Gabe and Lucas is a little tougher to deal with than the coaching part." said Hicks
Tilford added, " it is a little awkward for both sides because normally the wives and the grand parents would all sit together and they got to worry about what they say cause on Friday night your routing for your side but as soon as it is over it is no big deal."
