Police: Schuylkill County man admits to accidentally shooting 8-year-old son

Nevin Ebener of Schuylkill County is in prison for shooting his 8-year-old son.

Nevin Ebener is facing several charges, after police say he admitted to accidentally shooting his eight-year-old son Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at Ebener's apartment on East Market Street in Orwigsburg.

Police say the the child was shot at close range with a handgun.

Officials say the boy was rushed to the hospital, but he is now in stable condition. He suffered a broken arm, a broken pelvis, and "massive" internal injuries.

Authorities say Ebener admitted to "horsing" around with his son before the shooting happened.

Police say Ebener told them he was showing the gun to his son while making coffee and the gun "just went off."

But, police say, he admitted to having his finger on the trigger when the gun fired.

Investigators searched the apartment and they say they found another gun that was not securely out of reach of the child.

Upon the search, officials say they also found drugs and drug paraphernalia, also within reach of the child. They say Ebener admitted the drugs were his.

Ebener remains behind bars at the Schuylkill County Prison after not posting bail.
