59-year-old Al Reszel left Santa Monica Pier more than a month ago kicking off a 3,500-mile solo bike ride.

His cross-country ride is in support of his wife Terry and awareness of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

After losing a family member to breast cancer, Terry began annual mammograms later receiving the diagnosis no one wants to hear.

"Early detection is everything... and because of that I caught it early and all's good," Terry said.

She began breast cancer treatment in September 2010 and honors her journey with Al at her side.

"Terry's a breast cancer survivor, 8 year survivor, we started doing some rides just around central Minnesota, wanted to do something big," Al said.

Since then Al has completed two solo bike rides - 517-miles in 2016 and 1,744-miles last year.

This year he is almost done with his longest solo bicycle ride of 3,500-miles from Santa Monica, California to the corporate headquarters of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) in New York City.

Dan Harris, the General Manager of Pocono Manor, says he's happy to have the couple stay at the resort for a second year.

"Such a great cause, we're so honored to have them here. It's one year later, again they gave me a call and we put them up again for the night," Harris said.

Al plans to get to New Jersey on Thursday, ending his ride on Friday.

The couples goal is to raise $20,000 this year.
