Pike Co. doctor detained pending his sentencing for over-prescribing opioids
A Northeastern Pennsylvania doctor has surrendered to the U.S. Marshals in Scranton following an order for detention.
U.S. Attorney David Freed says Dr. Fuhai Li, 53, of Milford, was found guilty on June 4, 2018 for unlawfully prescribing oxycodone and other opioids to 23 former patients.
Over the course of less than four years from 2011 to 2015, Dr. Li wrote close to 27,000 prescriptions - nearly all of them for opioids.
Freed says one of his former patients included a Honesdale woman who died as a result of the pills.
Li was ordered by a judge to be detained pending his sentencing scheduled for September 2018.
