PA households can get heating help through LIHEAP


Winter is on the way.

State agencies are encouraging Pennsylvanians to apply now for help through LIHEAP, an energy program that helps pay heating bills for low income households during the winter months.

State leaders say last year an average of $300 dollars was given to each household participating.

Teresa Miller from the PA Department of Human Services says, "the individual or the household doesn't have to repay assistance, it goes directly to the utility company or the home heating fuel provider."

The federally-funded program gives out the money in the form of grants.
