New court plans for addition to building

WILKES-BARRE (WOLF) -- The new Luzerne County Central Court that opened in October now plans to expand into a grassy area.

Many have noticed the old Veterans Affairs building on Water Street seems cramped as a district court.

Now, officials want to add a second courtroom, a new entrance with security screening, and two bathrooms, President Judge Richard Hughes said.

The 1,020-square-foot addition would also have more spaces for attorneys to talk with their clients, Hughes said.

They also want seven parking spaces across the street. A city zoning hearing is set for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.
