Marywood University kicks off holiday season with Christmas tree lighting
SCRANTON (WOLF) -- The Marywood University community kicked off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting ceremony.
The event is hosted in the Rotunda on campus around this time every year.
This year’s tree is 24 feet tall, has more than 9,000 multi-colored lights, and comes from Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Lehighton.
Each club on campus puts an ornament on the tree, and the lighting is followed by caroling and light refreshments.
Its free and open to the public.
“We believe here at Marywood that everyone is part of our community and we like to open our doors to people wherever they are and let them know that they’re welcome here especially on an occasion such as this,” Sister Mary Persico, President of Marywood University, said.
The tree will stay lit throughout the Christmas season.
