Cat alerts woman to Sunday morning prowler

DORRANCE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) -- Police say they've caught the thief who broke into a woman's home on a Sunday morning.

It happened around 6 a.m. Sunday on Sunset Road near Blue Ridge Trail.

Police say a woman's cat leaped from the bed, startling her, when she saw a man in a light-colored hoodie crawling up the stairs on his hands and knees.

Troopers say when she screamed, the man ran away.

Police say he'd gone in through the back door, which was unlocked, and that other neighbors have spotted the man a few times in the past couple weeks walking around the neighborhood.

Police say he ran into the woods after being spotted by residents on all three occasions.

Police later arrested Anthony Carannante, 24, Wapwallopen. He's charged with burglary, criminal trespass, and loitering and prowling at nighttime.

The woman's landlord, Bill Taney, says she'd noticed some painkiller pills missing at a different time and thinks the thief may have come in before.

Taney also says he thinks the suspect lives right nearby.
