Luzerne County kicks off coalition to fight opioid crisis
WILKES-BARRE (WOLF) -- Luzerne County leaders kicked off their STOP coalition to fight the opioid epidemic plaguing the area.
The coalition includes a range of people affected by the crisis, from law enforcement to drug and alcohol experts to first responders, hoping a unified body will help address the issues.
Luzerne County DA Stefanie Salavantis says they want the public to know that they're coming together to change the future of the epidemic and reduce the number of overdoses.
"We want the community to know. We're doing a lot of great things with education, with stigma reduction, with prevention, with public safety and narcan subcommittees. All of these different efforts that are taking place."
Salavantis says the unique aspect of the STOP coalition is the number of different agencies collaborating for the same cause.
