"Lights On After School" event held in Wilkes-Barre
SHINE of Luzerne County held its *Lights on After School* event Thursday at Wilkes-Barre University.
The event's theme... electricity.
Students celebrated the importance of after school programming and a curriculum that emphasizes STEAM. (science, technology, engineering, arts, math)
Speakers talked about the work it takes to keep the lights on and the doors open for after school programs.
Carol Nicholas, SHINE Program director, says, "Well, nationwide we're celebrating Lights On For After School. Today's the day to call attention the importance of quality after school programming. We have an opportunity for them to enhance their learning, develop their skills, learn about STEM, have a hot meal, as well as really, again, prepare themselves for those jobs of future."
This year marks the 19th year of the nationwide event.
