UPDATE | Distressed man with rifle in Hamlin identified

UPDATE: Dylan Hopkins, 45, of Lake Ariel, was in his neighbor's backyard with a loaded AR-15 assault rifle around 8 a.m., according to the affidavit.

The neighbor reported to police that Hopkins was pacing back and forth and pointing the rifle at the direction of his house.

Authorities say Hopkins was taken into custody almost two hours later.

Hopkins pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor back in 1993 and was not to possess a firearm.


UPDATE: State Police say the situation has been resolved Tuesday in Hamlin.

A man with a rifle was in apparent distress and was taken into custody, according to Trooper Keyes.

There is no threat to the public.


There are reports of heavy police presence in the area of Shaffer's Do it Best Hardware in Hamlin.

People in that area took to social media about the incident.

One post on Facebook references to an active shooter.

Road blocks and helicopters have also been reported in that area.
