HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) -- The Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton is getting some major, multi-million dollar upgrades.
Officials say they're expanding the emergency room from 18 to 35 beds, and remodeling the lobby.
While work is being done , parts of the parking lot have been closed down and spots shifted, but doctors say the growing pains are well worth it.
"The facility will be completely renovated for the most part," said Anthony Valente, the chief medical officer. "The care that they receive here and the convenience that they have by getting that quality care close to home in a new modern atmosphere is gonna be really, really special."
Phase One of the expansion, which started last April, is also ongoing.
Three of the six patient care floors will get all new rooms.
All of the construction is expected to wrap up in about a year, depending on the weather.
