Families ring in 2018 at the Lackawanna Spectacular in Scranton

SCRANTON (WOLF) -- Fireworks and carriage rides were cancelled for the Lackawanna Spectacular on New Year's Eve because of the bitter cold and several other events were moved inside the Ritz Theater on Wyoming Avenue, but that didn't stop people from having a good time.

Live bands took the stage at the Ritz all the way up until midnight, in addition to family friendly fun like a hot cocoa stand, balloon shapes, face painting, and caricature drawings.

The celebration was a collaboration between the Ritz, the Lackawanna County Commissioners, and Scranton Tomorrow to revitalize the city's NYE celebrations.

It was also an alcohol-free zone.

Though the fireworks were cancelled, organizers planned a dance party and balloon release to ring in the New Year.
