WILKES-BARRE (WOLF) -- The Department of Public Works employee who helped a trooper catch a suspect was honored Friday.
On January 14, Martin Dartoe held the suspect down until an arrest could be made, using techniques he learned in wrestling and martial arts.
Friday, he got a proclamation from the Mayor of Wilkes-Barre for his good work.
Even with all the praise, Dartoe insists he's no hero.
"It's for the people," he said. "To let them know that there are a lot of good people out here and we need to do what needs to be done, we need to work together because we breathe the same air"
"He came from a place in Africa where there was a lot of fighting going on and his instinct is just to protect everyone," added his sister Jill Sperl.
Dartoe says he might try to become a police officer in the future.
Troopers said if that happens, they'd love to be there to see him get his badge.
