Berwick business owner attempts to flee on motorcycle, arrested on drug charges

A Berwick business owner was taken into custody Saturday night.

Berwick Police say officers responded twice to the Mystery Box on East 2nd Street regarding a motion sensor burglar alarm.

No one was inside, but authorities found suspected marijuana, a scale, and a 15" marijuana plant.

Officers spoke to the owner Marc Bankes, who requested a search warrant.

Police say Bankes tried to flee the scene on a motorcycle while awaiting the search warrant, but an officer attempted to stop him.

That officer was shortly dragged by the motorcycle until Bankes fell off.

Bankes was in possession of a backpack containing 42 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and over $4,500 in cash, according to officials.

He is facing drug, aggravated assault, and resisting arrest charges.

Court records show Bankes at the Columbia County Prison with set $75,000 bail.
