Auditor general to perform audit on Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission
HARRISBURG -- Auditor General Eugene DePasquale announced Wednesday he has launched an audit into the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
"Through this audit I hope to provide an accurate picture of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's status and, if necessary, make recommendations for improvement," DePasquale said.
DePasquale said the audit will assess the performance, procedures, operating and capital budgets, debt and accounts of the Turnpike Commission. The audit will cover June 2015 through May 2017.
The auditor general performed a previous audit in September 2016 and found toll violations were increasing, causing millions of dollars in write-offs per year.
He said in that audit that failing to meet the commission's "unrealistic traffic and revenue projections" could contribute to a financial and statewide transportation crisis.
