Anthracite Arts Festival hits Hazleton

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) -- Some local art has taken up residence in downtown Hazleton.

The Hazleton Art League is harnessing the region's humble beginnings with the Anthracite Arts Festival.

Local photography and sculptures aim to celebrate the area's working class history.

Event organizers say Hazleton has rich working class roots, where people often endured poor conditions and low pay.

"There are a lot of similar issues going on today as well, so we want to try to think about all of that and experience all of that, through art. So we're going to use art as a way to experience our history and our region," said Festival Co-Organizer Jamie Longazel.

There is also poetry and folk music - the gallery and festival will be going on through Saturday night
