Abandoned house catches fire, second on block

Abandoned house catches fire, second on street

WILKES-BARRE (WOLF) -- A Wilkes-Barre home went up in flames this afternoon - and it wasn't the first time.

Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney says the property next to 37 Fulton Street caught fire in September, and was deemed "intentionally set".

That case is still open, and officials are now investigating the cause of today's fire.

Both properties have no one currently living in them.

Chief Delaney says nobody was hurt but it's still unclear if anyone was in the building at the time of the fire.

"Well it's extremely scary. And I think the worst part is that we have some elderly people on this street, and also some homebound. So it's very scary to think, what if that happens and you can't get out of the house?" said Amanda Myzick, who lives across the street.

There was another fire on nearby South Sherman street back in August.
