2 arrested, 1 injured in Wilkes-Barre Twp. road rage incident

A man and woman were arrested Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting another driver in the middle of an intersection.

Wilkes-Barre Police says the victim was waiting to turn into Walmart in Wilkes-Barre Township around 9:20 p.m. when she encountered Deidra Vasquez, 35, of Wilkes-Barre, driving in front of her.

The victim told officers that she beeped her horn at Deidra because of the yellow traffic light turning and Deidra got out of her car yelling at her.

Deidra then got back in her car and slammed on her brakes trying to get the victim to crash into her.

Officials say when that didn't happen, Deidra got out of her car again and pulled the victim out of her car punching her.

The passenger in Deidra's car, David Mendoza, 37, of Bronx, NY, started yelling at the female as well and swung a cane at her face.

According to authorities, Mendoza continued hitting her with the cane until it broke as the victim was calling 911.

Vasquez and Mendoza were taken into custody and arraigned where bail was set at $5,000.

Police say they are facing assault and harassment charges.
