1-year-old, grandfather burned in Wayne County house fire

CHERRY RIDGE TWP., WAYNE COUNTY (WOLF) -- A grandfather and his 1-year-old granddaughter are in the hospital tonight after escaping a house fire in Wayne County.

The fire broke out just after 7:30 this morning at a home along Middle Creek Road in Cherry Ridge Township.

Fire officials say the two suffered burns and were both taken to GCMC in Scranton.

The 1-year-old was taken by helicopter.

No one else was injured, but officials believe a few pets died in the fire.

The cause is still under investigation by State Police fire marshals.

The house is a total loss.
