Volpe's Views: Bullying
Hardly a day goes by that we don't open the Internet or a local newspaper and learn someone else has been accused of bullying. Well, our own state capitol is not immune from those allegations, the most recent of which went viral on the Internet.
In a Facebook post recently, Republican Rep. Daryl Metcalfe of Southwestern Pennsylvania called Democrat Philadelphia Rep. Brian Sims a "lying homosexual," later defending his offensive comment by saying, "Sims has spoken openly about being gay."
Metcalfe said he believes it's "immoral behavior."
In a tweeted response, Sims called Metcalfe Representative a "Snowflake McRacist" and said Metcalfe "claims victimhood" when called out in public.
There's no place in government for Metcalfe's logic.
He recently suggested that another lawmaker who touched him during a meeting, might be gay.
Metcalfe's apparent homophobia aside, these two men need to be reminded that bullying is bullying and unacceptable behavior on the schoolyard or in the House of Representatives.
Some sensitivity training would serve both men well.
