Police: Homicide suspect shot cop before hot pursuit
WOODWARD TOWNSHIP, LYCOMING COUNTY (WOLF) -- Police say a Williamsport officer was shot in the arm during a hot pursuit after a deadly shooting.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of W. Third Street.
Police say the officer, Nicholas Carrita, was trying to stop the suspect in white Dodge vehicle that might be connected to a shooting he was responding to on the 2500 block of W. Third Street.
Officer Carrita pursued Heath east on W. Third St. and went to pull him over on the 1500 block. That's when he got out of the car and shot several times at Carrita, hitting his right arm and police car, police said.
Heath then went south on Highway 220 to the Jersey Shore exit, police said. He then turned around, and other officers pursued the vehicle headed back north on Highway 220 to the Sheetz in Linden.
At Sheetz, police say Heath got out of the car and started shooting at officers, who returned fire, and then, Heath killed himself.
Meanwhile, police say they found the victim in the original homicide at 2225 W. Third Street in Williamsport: 33-year-old Shawn Graham, who was shot in the abdomen and died.
Police are also searching for a second suspect in that shooting but are not currently releasing a description.
Another agency, PSP Montoursville, is investigating the officer-involved shooting, said Miller.
Carrita was taken to UPMC Williamsport for treatment and is expected make a full recovery and be released soon.
