Senior citizen killed in early-morning crash

CATAWISSA TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WOLF) -- Police say a senior citizen is dead after crashing his car over the weekend.

It happened around 5 a.m. on Sunday on Mainville Drive near River Hill Drive in Catawissa Township, just across the river from Bloomsburg.

Police say Joseph Cassidy, 75, Bloomsburg, was traveling west when he did not negotiate a curve, swiped a guardrail, and then hit a dirt bank.

Troopers say the car went airborne before landing on the northbound lane on State Route 487/River Hill Drive, and crashing into an embankment. He died at the scene.
