Scranton School District Superintendent: keeping kids safe is always on the forefront
SCRANTON (WOLF) —
Schools in our area are continuing to evaluate their safety procedures in light of this week's shooting in Florida.
Scranton School District says it has specific check-in procedures for anyone entering the buildings.
There are also school resource officers in the schools every day and every school is required to submit a yearly safety and evacuation plan.
They say schools do regular drills and ongoing training is provided to teachers for emergency situations.
"You don't wait for an incident to happen, you try to be proactive and have things in place and I feel that we do have things in place in Scranton. The whole idea is to update our plans and our training," said Superintendent Dr. Alexis Kirijan.
Dr. Kirijan says they are currently working with a group from the U.S. Department of Education on a crisis management plan.
