Scranton nonprofits distribute over 3,600 Christmas toys
SCRANTON (WOLF) -- Friends of the Poor and Catholic Social Services teamed up to make sure everyone in the Scranton area has a merry Christmas.
They had 600 families sign up to get gifts to put under their tree.
Many had multiple kids per family and each could get one big and one small toy. Friends of the Poor estimates they gave out over 3,600 toys today.
They say they've been stocking up on toys all year to prepare for the big day, collecting donations and scouting sales.
"We have a lot of working poor families that are going paycheck to paycheck to put food on the table, so this is just a nice thing that we can provide the families; give them a little bit of joy over the holidays and one less thing to worry about," said Friends of the Poor President and CEO Meghan Loftus.
They said they will also be giving out Christmas dinners this Thursday at St. Mary's Center from 10-5 p.m.
