Preparations underway to tear down old airport terminal
AVOCA, PA (WOLF-TV) —
The old terminal building at Wilkes-Bare/Scranton International Airport is about to come down.
Travelers will notice the demolition over the next several weeks.
The goal is to have it finished *before the air show later this summer.
The new terminal was built in 2006, but officials needed to utilize the tower at the former terminal until a few years ago.
“Once that was done, it was actually full-speed ahead,” said Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick O’Malley.
“There’s remediation inside, that’s all finished. Now it’s a matter of coming in and tearing through the scrap and tearing the building down. It’s a great day for Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties today.”
Leaders say a blacktop for parking will replace the former building.
