Police in Blakeslee searching for men posing as PPL workers

BLAKESLEE, MONROE COUNTY (WOLF) -- A scam alert tonight in Monroe County.

Police there say two men are still on the loose after posing as PPL workers and trying to enter someone’s home.

Moyer Road in Blakeslee was largely quiet Monday afternoon; very few cars driving down the snow and ice-covered road.

But this past Saturday, Pocono Mountain Regional Police say two unwelcome visitors stopped by a home on this road.

Police say they were posing as PPL workers and attempted to go inside.

“Little bit scared because you don’t know who’s going up to your door or who’s going to be at your door or what they’re going to do. It’s a little frightening to see who is going to knock on your door and see if they have something that can harm you or someone else,” Eric Sharp, of Blakeslee, said.

Police say the two men claimed that they had to check the “levels” inside the home.

However, they were not let inside and left the property on foot.

People we spoke to told us what they would do if they found themselves in a similar situation.

“You have to lock up, have to make sure your kids are in a safe spot, probably put them all in one room – preferably upstairs if you have an upstairs. Probably call the cops, call the police,” Erajah Blount, of Blakeslee, said.

The men are described as being in their 20s with dark hair and beards.

Blakeslee residents say they’re hoping this is the last incident they’ll hear about.

“I hope they don’t knock on anybody else’s door,” Sharp said.

“My neighbors are just two 70-year-old ladies so I can see how that can be kind of scary for them. Of course, you have to be concerned. Its like a peaceful town so you have to think about that,” Blount said.

PPL says its very rare for utility workers to show up on doorsteps unannounced and normally visits are prearranged. It also only asks for access to homes on a limited basis and usually only for issues with electrical service.

All PPL workers carry ID, so if you have any doubts about someone at your door, ask them to show their ID. You can also call 1-800-DIAL-PPL to confirm if there are workers in your area.

If you’re still not sure, call 911.
