New Trolley Trail opens in Lackawanna County

There's a new spot for people to enjoy the outdoors in Lackawanna County.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new 1.5 mile Trolley Trail at Keystone College took place this afternoon.

Leaders describe this as a critical piece of a 14 mile public hiking and biking trail envisioned by Countryside Conservancy along the old Northern Electric Railroad Line.

"We hope to have 5 K races here. We're going to put some art installations along the way," Sharon Burke, of Keystone College, said.

"We're hoping to do nature hikes and journaling, and use it really as a gateway to so many educational and recreational pursuits," she said.

The ultimate goal is to connect the 14 mile trail from Clarks Summit to Lake Winola.
