Mike Linden's Forecast | Severe storm threat brings damaging winds, hail & rain
The start to the work week has been pretty nice considering Summer is only EIGHT DAYS AWAY! We'll have another hiccup on the road to Summer, though, with a SLIGHT risk (two out of five) for strong to severe thunderstorms across NEPA tonight.
The main threat out of these storms will be damaging winds. We may also see some hail out of these and possibly and isolated tornado (more unlikely, though). This is a result of a powerful cold front sweeping across Pennsylvania today. The key here is timing. If we lose the sunshine, these storms weaken considerably. We'll likely find the strongest storms over Central Pennsylvania around 5:00-6:00 with the remaining storms arriving over NEPA by 6:00-7:00.
If you've been doing any yard work these past couple of days be sure there isn't anything in your backyard you want to chase down; the winds will be kicking tonight! With a soggy ground, some older trees could come down too. All things to consider when dealing with a round of strong/severe storms.
Beyond this evening, the region becomes sunnier and warmer as the weekend approaches. Get outside both Friday and Saturday because the humidity and the chance for storms returns on Sunday.
