Mike Linden's Forecast | Dangerous cold arrives overnight
We've been teasing it all week but the day has arrived when arctic cold air approaches NEPA. The rest of Thursday will remain chilly with a few passing (light) showers. We may even see some light wintry mix in the upper elevations and near the Poconos. Overnight and into Friday is when things get serious.
An Arctic air mass will push into the Northeast overnight bringing temperatures down into the mid 20s. By the afternoon, most spots will struggle to even break into the low 30s. Yeah...seriously cold. Be sure to dress in layers and get your heat going. Frozen pipe season is pretty much here!
Overnight Friday and into Saturday will be the coldest evening of the season BAR NONE as temperatures drop into the low teens and single digits. With even a light wind, the teens may feel like the low single digits, if not sub-freezing for the upper elevations.
Veterans Day weekend won't be the prettiest nor the warmest as temperatures slightly recover into the upper 30s and low 40s. Saturday will be cold but will likely remain dry, Sunday is a different story.
Another frontal system dives in late Sunday with the potential for slushy wintry mix much like what the region saw earlier this week. This will persist into early Monday but not much beyond the early morning commute.
Moral of the story? Get your warm clothes ready.
