Funeral procession for fire chief

ASHLEY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) -- Dozens gathered Thursday morning to remember the Ashley fire chief and councilman who passed away unexpectedly.

Joe McGlynn died suddenly on Sunday. He was 63.

Firefighters lifted the casket on top of a fire truck then marched down Hazle Street, stopping in front of the fire hall in Ashley.

McGlynn was also a 35-year Ashley policeman who retired as Sergeant.

Fellow firefighters were shocked to hear of his death.

Chief Joe Temerantz of the Hanover Township Fire Department said, "I was in total, total awe and took myself a few minutes to compose myself but I'm gonna miss him. I worked very closely with Joe McGlynn and we're the neighboring town over many, many times on different incidents and we worked well together."

McGlynn's friend says the turnout for the funeral on a workday is a tribute to him and shows just how much he was respected.
