Dunmore vs Southern Columbia Preview

Dunmore takes on Southern Columbia in the Class 2A state semifinals.

It is the game everyone wanted to seeDunmore versus’ Southern Columbia in this week’s state Class double A semi finals.

Dunmore have been the playoff road warriors with wins over Newport and Ligonier Valley. The Bucks have travelled to Dauphin county the last two weeks and still have managed to come out with wins.

Dunmore Senior Nate Fangio said "I think we are very confident. WE feel we are a great team and that we have a lot of great players, southern has a lot of great players also but we feel like we are very confident."

Dunmore’s defense pitched 6 straight shutouts during the regular season. The bucks will need that defensive effort against a Southern Columbia offense that averages 50 points a game.

Dunmore Senior Luke Yanisko said " The defensive side we really work together as a team. Even in the weight room we are always together working together, running hills together and everyone just coming together making tackles and making big plays not only one person either different games everyone is making great plays. "

Southern Columbia junior Stone Hollenbach: "We have great athletes on this team. Our line men are athletic. We have athletes basically everywhere. It is nice has a quarterback to know that you have Julian, Gage, Preston people like that are very reliable receivers that you can throw the football too."

Southern will meet Dunmore for the first time since 2012 when they lost 35-29. In fact, the tigers this decade are just 1 and 3 against District 2 teams.

Southern Columbia Andrew Bell added" You have to give them props they are an historic program, we are an historic program, we have actually never beat them in state playoffs, they have won every eastern final game they have been to so we are trying to make that a first, there is a first time for everything and I think this week is a good week to do it. "

The Tigers are looking to win a eighth state championship and their first since 2015.
