Carbondale man arrested in shooting

Carbondale police arrested 42-year-old Stanley Dombroski for shooting his wife in the back Thursday night.

Carbondale police arrested 42-year-old Stanley Dombroski for allegedly shooting his wife in the back Thursday night.

According to a criminal complaint, police responded to a domestic violence call on Dundaff Street. Upon arrival, they found Melissa Dombroski outside of the home with a gunshot wound to her back. She said Dombroski was still inside the home with a shotgun and also their 9-year-old son. The police on scene called for back-up.

Chief Trentley of the Archbald Police was able to talk Dombroski out of the house without incident and take him into custody after Dombroski barricaded his residence and collected other guns he had in the home for "when she came back" after his wife left the residence. Dombroski had called a co-worker to explain he would not be into work the next day because the police had his house surrounded and he had a fight with his wife. He stated he weighed his options after Chief Trently called his phone and decided to surrender to the police.

Stan Dombroski told police his wife woke him up by punching him in the face while he was sleeping and accused him of cheating on her. He stated he told his wife, " there is no way I'm being hit by a female" and warned her he would shoot her if she did not leave him alone as he walked up the stairs. Dombroski continued to explain how he loaded the shotgun as they continued to argue back and forth. He said his wife walked down the stairs and out the door and that's when he hit the door with the shotgun round.

Court papers also say after Dombroski was in custody, he asked is his wife was ok and said, "I don't really think I got her."

Stanley Dombroski was arrested and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of children.

Melissa Dombroski was taken to the hospital and their 9-year-old son was found safe.
