News Safe_area_HSBasketball 2-9.jpg

When Riverside lost their leading scorer Evan Carrubba to injury the Vikings needed others to step up…and they did..and they haven’t missed a beat.

Brayden Thiel, Riverside senior says : With Evan going down it really brought us closer together. We had to have more of us click to get more points on the board obviously.

Riverside Head Coach Mike Morgan added: I have this freshman named mike Rickert he ‘s really developed through the year and there is another boy sophomore is name is Razen Reyes and he’s came on. He is a lefty, like to stroke it and he has been rebounding real well for us and doing a great job.

The Bucks have relied on their defense to hold opponents down but when offense is needed, Dunmore looks to sophomore Daniel Walsh and senior Richie Grippi.

Dunmore coach Tony Lacertoso says : Danny is a true basketball player, Richie been our main threat from the outside and once we got Nate Fangio back from football he has been giving a real good punch as far as scoring. Those are our three main guys but like I said before our bench Mark Rinaldi has helped us out a lot with Frankie and Ross Cardaro.

Dunmore senior Richie Grippi added; looking into the future it is definitely bright. We have a lot of great guys in the sophomore class and in the junior class who don’t get much renegotiation in the papers. So we are definitely confident for sure.

Riverside and Dunmore compete in division 3 of the Lackawanna League. After the Vikings upset holy cross in the 1st half and Dunmore recently losing to Carbondale . It shows how tough this division really is.

Dunmore senior Nate Fangio says The league is really like a tough league. There are teams that can win, can beat anyone any night. It depends if they are on or off. There is great competition in this league.

Riverside senior Jason Holam added: any game can go either way, no team is a number one favorite all the way. You just have to show up every night.

The last time these two teams met two weeks ago Dunmore beat riverside by 11 points. See the rematch tomorrow night at 8 pm on MyTV WQMY.
