When Tommy Dempsey took over Binghamton university men’s basketball it came at a time the bearcats were in e midst of rebranding a program that had just gone through an NCAA investigation
Tommy Dempsey said "it has been a holistic approach and when you are building a program that is coming off a scandal , tough times, and academic issues and those kind of things you really have to talking about building a program as opposed to a basketball team. So I think off the court we have done a great job. I think we have all of the metrics from academics to the way the kids behave to the stuff they do in the community all that stuff is in a great place."
With successful stints at keystone College, Lackawanna college and rider university I asked coach Tommy Dempsey to evaluate his 6 seasons here at Binghamton.
Dempsey added " Off the court I would say A, academically and socially I would say A and on the court, C, We just have not made the progress that I would like to make. We made progress I think there is lot of work to be done and I am excited about the next few years and to contribute to build and get the program to where everyone wants it to be and that starts with me , I did not come here to lose."
Losing is something Binghamton cannot afford to do with 4 games left in the regular season. Right now they are outside of making the America East Playoffs.
To date our conference season has been a disappointment but we have a chance to turn that around here in the next couple of weeks and if we do that and we get in the conference tournament and we can make some noise then I don’t feel that we will be sitting here a month from now, five weeks from now saying it was a disappointment added the 6 year coach of the Bearcats.
