Airport to charge Uber and Lyft drivers
AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) -- The Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport will start charging rideshare service providers when they pick up or drop off passengers.
The airport finalized agreements with Uber and Lyft Thursday, so that each airport visit will be charged a $2 fee.
The fee goes into effect immediately.
There will be a designated parking space in front of the terminal building dedicated to the rideshare providers.
Wilkes-Barre Scranton Intl. Airport does not currently know how many travelers are using Uber and Lyft, but say the service will help them figure those numbers.
"It's important to remember that this doesn't necessarily mean that Uber and Lyft weren't here before. They were providing the service already. We're simply going to be reimbursed, like many airports across the country, for the times that they use this airport," said Airport Director Carl Beardsley.
Beardsley says the fee will go to overall airport operations.
