9-year-old girl dies in Carbon County house fire
MAHONING TOWNSHIP, CARBON COUNTY (WOLF) -- A 9-year-old girl is dead after a fire destroyed a home in Mahoning Township early Sunday morning.
According to police, the fire started around 1:30 a.m. at a home on the 300 block of Beaver Run Drive and engulfed it in flames before being put out around 4 a.m.
Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller says the young girl died of asphyxiation before emergency crews could get her out of the home. Her father and brother were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Cedar Crest. And according to Miller, the girl's mother went to the hospital with them, but did not appear to be injured.
Nine local fire departments responded to the fire.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
